About us

Pinoy Dog Mom is a blog managed and owned by myself, Ton Reyes, a writer who has lived her entire life with dogs.  As a toddler, I remember peering into the eyes of our German Shepherd named Lassie, and every memory of my childhood always included a dog by my side — my beloved terrier Bubbles and my dad’s shadow, Tiny, the aloof poodles Lancelotte and Prince (they didn’t like me), our aspins Negrito and Negrita, our German short-haired pointers Dot, Diamond, King, and even the majestic Doberman Medo of my aunt. At one point, we had 16 dogs in our household, and I recall few times when I did not share my life with a dog. Being always part of a dog pack has taught me so much about our furry friends.

I am also behind Elan Miniature Schnauzers, a small hobby kennel in the Philippines that my breed partner Nick Montesines and myself set up in 2013 to raise well-bred miniature schnauzers in the country. By well-bred, we mean mini schnauzers that are healthy, have sound temperaments, and who conform closely to the breed standard.

5250As hobbyists, our goal is to have beautiful and healthy mini schnauzers that we can share our lives with. This means we join conformation dog shows, and we are proud to own the top mini schnauzers in the country (PCCI rankings) in the years that we were actively showing our dogs. We are also very proud to state that the progeny of our dogs have also gone on to become top-ranked dogs not only in the Philippines, but also in Thailand.

Being serious hobbyists also means propagating the lines that we have worked so hard to get from the four corners of the world, to ensure that the best and healthiest schnauzer lines live on in the Philippines.

For us, raising dogs is not just a hobby. It is a lifelong commitment that means sharing our lives with them, and understanding their every need from the moment they are born into this world until the time they cross over to the rainbow bridge. It is both a privilege and an honor that we deeply cherish.

In creating this blog, I aim to share knowledge and insights from my years as a dog owner, especially of miniature schnauzers. I also hope to cut through the noise and misinformation found on FB groups, where the amount of wrong information is staggering. I am not in the Facebook selling groups, because I just cannot stomach the posturing of know-it-alls and the nonsense they spew, plus the fake accounts that are everywhere.

Puppies available?

We no longer breed from our own lines, since ALL our females, including our champions, have been spayed. We usually keep our dogs at home or within our family. However, from time to time, we may have puppies available in the colors recognized by the FCI–salt and pepper, black and silver, black, and white. These dogs are usually sired by our studs and bred in partnership with trusted partners. If we think that you can provide the same, or more, love and attention that we accord our dogs, then we can consider.

Just a warning — we ask a lot of questions from those who want puppies from us, and let me be upfront about this, I do not entertain commercial breeders and those who want to breed just for the heck of it. Dogs from us have to live indoors. We do not want pets to be bred. I don’t care if you live in the ritziest place in the world — if you have no plans of letting your dog stay indoors full-time, please do not bother to contact me.

    1. Hi Milagros, I hope you got my message. I live in the northern part of Metro Manila but since I go to VIP in White Plains, I would recommend that you take your dog to VIP Alabang. I am sorry I have not had any experience with Pet Mobile BF Las Pinas.

  2. Dog food brands like Orijen and Acana are pretty expensive nowadays. I’ve fed my dogs (a Siberian Husky, a German Shepherd and a Labrador Retriever) these brands but ever since I’ve been retired I find it all the more difficult to keep up with the cost of these Class A brands. I sis some research on some local brands but almost all of them left me questioning their quality. However, there is one particular local brand that I hear so much about from local pet owners and this is TopBreed for Adult. I took a look at this particular brand and found it to be way much cheaper and it is manufactured by Robina Farms Inc and have won awards at the World Branding Awards. Anyway, I would like your view/opinion regarding this particular dog food brand and if you think they are safe and optimal enough for the 3 dog breeds I have. Thank you.
